style monday | cold snap!

Hello! Been a bit quiet around here, hasn't it? This year presented myself and my family with some really difficult circumstances, and in the midst of it I really lost my mojo and with it my sense of blogging voice. I felt like I was trying to be too many things I wasn't with the revamp, but at the same time I (stupidly, I might add--I have kicked myself repeatedly for this) let EM lapse completely. It's been a learning experience with some regrets, but in the process I also learned a lot about what my core interests that I want to share with others online are (if that makes any sense!).

Thanks for all the thoughtful notes and comments on Instagram this summer and fall. I can't even begin to tell you what cheer they brought to me. I don't know many of you in real life, but sometime a kind word even from someone on the other side of the world brings sunshine to someone's day that means so much. You all are so sweet!

blouse: Old Navy, skirt: 1940s vintage, boots: 1950s vintage, belt: Forever 21, earrings: estate sale.

jacket: 1970s vintage, thrifted, purse: Kate Spade

Shall we move on to the reason for posting? An outfit--hooray! The weather turned quite cold this week (another yay! I love cardigan and coat weather...), which meant pulling all my sweaters and wool skirts out of their boxes. I feel like these things must multiply in the dark recesses of my closet each summer, because there always seems to be more than I remember packing up. haha! This skirt is something I'm really excited about! Its a darling 1940s (wartime, I'm pretty sure), heavy wool, with the iconic flared a-line of that period. To say I love this skirt is an understatement! I got it from one of my favorite vintage clothing shops Sherry's Yesterdaze in Tampa, FL (if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood, do stop by!). I miss being able to shop there in person! (Apologies for the wrinkly skirt in the photos--I took these towards the end of a really busy day.)

Those boots are another favorite piece in my closet from a Virginia vintage shop. They're actually 1950s fur trimmed galoshes (so I have to wear shoes inside them--otherwise the heel collapses because it's hollow to go over the street shoes). Something that had been on my wishlist for years! They don't come out much (vintage suede is rather delicate and I don't want these to wear more than I can help), but are awfully fun.

Hope you all are having a lovely week thus far, and staying warm (or keeping cool if you're headed towards summer)! I've been keeping parked in front of the space heater in the evenings!

A little note... I am on Twitter again (I deleted my old account because sometimes I find Twitter too much to keep up with!) and tweeting random things as well as IG and blog posts under the username caseymauraxo.

    1. Thank you, Lana! I think the clouds are starting to lift--we got some great news recently, and a few circumstances changed that lifted a lot of the load from my shoulders. I'm hopeful 2014 will end on a better note--and that I'll be in the mood to blog more frequently! I missed this space and community!

  2. I loooove those boots! I need a pair!! Haha I'll have to start prowling the second hand shops... been putting off winter boot shopping as we're still just getting rain here in central Sweden but I do need a new pair!
Anyway, so glad to see you're back on the blog! I love all your posts :)
Sometimes I think 2014 has been a tough year for everyone I know! Hope things are getting back on track for you and your family!

  4. Life takes us through different seasons; so I totally understand. We all go through that. I hope that this coming year is a good one for you and your family. Your little one must be getting big now. I really love your outfit. The outfit posts are wonderful inspiration and gives me ideas for ways to put different elements together. I would visit you on Twitter and Instagram, but I am not currently on those. Not sure if I'm ready to add another thing to my already busy schedule. My current ways of keeping up are Bloglovin, Facebook and Pinterest. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you and yours this holiday season.

    1. So lovely to see a comment from you, Trudy! :) No worries about not following me on the other social media outlets--I think sometimes doing more than FB and Pinterest is a bit much! hehe. Thank you for the well wishes of a better year ahead; things are starting to look up and we have some big (and good!) things ahead, so my hopes are high that 2015 will be a better season. :)

  6. I LOVE your outfit Casey! The boots are just divine, and the whole look is so cute!

I can sympathize a little bit with having a hard time blogging. I think we all go through hard seasons, and it's really my sisters who keep me going and fill in when I don't feel up to blogging, and I fill in for them when they feel down. I hope and pray that the Lord will bless you with a joyful holiday season, and that you will have much to be thankful for!

  8. It's so hard when life keeps getting in the way of all the things you'd like to do ~ I hope that the year closes smoothly for you and that you and your family find an easer path next year. I can totally relate to life and family overwhelming everything else, but I hope you find the time to relax and work on some creative stuff to keep you smiling.

And your outfit is super cute ~ those boots are so perfect!

Random hugs to cheer you up! ♡

    1. Thank you so much, Bonita! :) This year turned out to be about serving others--both family and strangers--which wasn't a bed thing in itself. What I didn't realize is that I needed to be more adamant about making time for me to relax and engage in things that I love and inspire me. One of the many lessons I learned this year. ;)

  13. Every once in a while I check in here just in case something new has appeared . . . what a treat to see a fresh post from you! You have had your priorities right during what sounds like a challenging year . . . real life and family comes first, and blogging comes way after that. Good for you for returning to your blog on your schedule, when you felt the time was right. Your instagrams have given those of us who follow and admire you a little peek at your life and adventures. . . but it's still so gratifying to see you back here. You're so gifted and your sense of style and unique perspective are inspirational to many of us. Blessings to you and your sweet family as you head into the holidays!

  14. Good to see you back, Casey -- your postings are a gift to us all, from your time and resources, so we are happy to see you here whenever your energy and "mojo" allows! I'm sorry your year has been such a doozy. I completely understand!
Your outfit is lovely! I also love sweater-and-coat weather, although it sometimes makes dressing a challenge. I've never heard of heeled galoshes meant to fit over a shoe! Very glamorous. ;)

Aren't those galoshes so fun?! My great grandmother had a pair I used to play with as a child, and it took decades to find another set! They're a lot of fun though and definitely not a footwear style you see any more.
