style monday | a weekend in july

wearing: Lena blouse (c/o Trashy Diva), gathered skirt (c/o Trashy Diva), wedges (Anne Taylor), earrings (vintage), bracelet (family heirloom).

Hello, friends! Apologies for the radio silence... well, everywhere online. I know I've hinted that things have been a bit off this season, and it sometimes feels like I can't get my head above water for very long with everything going on in my life. So blogging has been a bit spotty. And for that, I feel more than a bit guilty. But I'm sure everyone can understand: sometimes life just gets in the way (as annoying as that is!). I want to write a more in-depth post about some of the things this "season in life" has brought, but I don't quite have the words to share it all. One day...

But on to fun things--outfits! lol. It's full-swing summertime, and I'm really enjoying wearing some cute vintage-inspired pieces lately. I don't know what it is about warmer weather, but every July I get bitten by the retro/pin up bug! Scarves, bright red lipstick (my perennial favorite: Mac's "Russian Red"), and cute midriff tops and skirts (or high waist 40s shorts) are in constant rotation right now. I recently got these pieces from Trashy Diva--one of my favorite vintage-inspired clothing lines--and they fit right in with my current obsessions!

I own several pieces from the New Orleans-based company's past collections, so when they contacted me about reviewing something from their new chambray line, I jumped at the chance. As with all the other Trashy Diva garments I own, the quality is beautiful and the fit is very true to size. After consulting with a brand representative, we decided to go down a size that I would normally buy for the top (because I have a small bust, and there is some stretching in the fit), which turned out to be perfect. As a side note, I feel like the pleated contrast on this midriff top is really flattering for those of demure bust!

Back view: the straps aren't supposed to cross, but I did anyway. They have buttons to adjust the length to customize fit.

I really love that these pieces can be worn as a set or, well, separately! To me, having that ability to mix and match is a plus and the garments will get worn a lot. For alternate looks, I paired the top with some self-made white shorts--a look that I instantly fell head over heels for. It also looks amazing with a red print circle skirt I have (wish I had gotten photos the day I wore that!). But this is just the tip of the iceberg; my wardrobe has so many things that will go well with chambray I'm sure I'm going to come up with a lot of other looks!

What are your summer wardrobe obsessions?

  5. Trashy Diva is such a fun store! It isn't my style but I always hop into the store when I am in the Quarter. I am glad they are getting a customer base outside of NOLA.

  6. Marvelously lovely!!! Denim and chambray are too of my favourite fabrics ever and I'm constantly on the prowl for vintage, repro or vintage inspired pieces featuring these rugged, timelessly materials.
